LUNES 8 DE DICIEMBRE SHOWROOM CERRADO
Designed in 1957 by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the Mezzadro stool is an icon of Italian design. Inspired by the concept of the ready-made, it reinterprets an agricultural tractor seat with a curved steel frame and a beechwood base, fusing the industrial with the artisanal in a bold and functional piece.
Presented at the 10th Milan Triennale and the Shapes and Colors in Today's Homes exhibition in 1957, it wasn't until 1971 that Zanotta brought it into production. Its name, "Mezzadro" (sharecroppers in Italian), evokes the spirit of Neo-Avant-garde, with references to Arte Povera and the irony of Pop Art.
Today, the Mezzadro is part of museum collections such as MoMA and the Vitra Design Museum, reaffirming its place as a design masterpiece that transcends its function and redefines the concept of contemporary furniture.
