Soriana Armchair - Ash Grey/Red
Diseñador: afra & Tobia ScarpaThe Soriana armchair, designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, is an icon of Italian design that revolutionized upholstered furniture. Taking advantage of the innovative polyurethane foam molding techniques of the time, the designers created a piece that dispenses with a traditional internal structure, taking its shape thanks to a metal bracket that envelops and supports the generous padding. This combination of soft, voluptuous lines offers casual and sophisticated comfort, reflecting the changing lifestyles of the late 1960s.
In 1970, Soriana was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro prize, recognizing its innovation and contribution to contemporary design. Cassina, in collaboration with Tobia Scarpa and as part of its Cassina LAB initiative, has updated the armchair by incorporating sustainable materials, such as plant-based BioFoam® padding and recycled fibers, reaffirming its commitment to well-being and responsible design.
Today, the Soriana armchair remains a sought-after piece in the field of interior design, combining history, innovation and sustainability in a single piece of furniture.
